Cooks decimates Japan as Boomers book second-round spot

Xavier Cooks feasted on Japan as the Australian Boomers locked in a second-round berth with a 109-89 victory in Okinawa.

The Washington Wizards forward had 24 points on 60 per cent shooting to go along with 16 rebounds, 10 of which were offensive. He also collected two assists and two blocks.

Josh Giddey joined in on the double-double party with 26 points, 11 assists and five rebounds. This is Giddey’s highest score in green and gold to date.

Patty Mills almost joined them. The 6’1″ combo guard finished with 11 points, nine assists, three rebounds, one steal and one block.

The Boomers now play Luka Doncic’s Slovenia and Georgia in the second phase of the World Cup.
