Australia knocked out of World Cup
The Australian Boomers loss to Slovenia means they will no longer be able to advance to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
They lost to Luka Doncic and company 91-80 after never having the lead for the entire encounter.
While everyone was focused on Doncic, it was naturalised player Mike Tobey who dominated early. He finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and a steal.
Doncic was in early foul trouble, but Australia couldn’t take an advantage while he was off the floor.
He put up 19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, a steal and a block.
For Australia, Josh Giddey was a shining light in one of their darkest hours. The young star had 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals while veteran Patty Mills finished the game with 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal.
The Boomers now play Georgia in a dead rubber to close out their tournament.
